Work is set to begin on March 1 and last six months.

TIFFIN, OHIO – February 9, 2024 – The Bucyrus-Tiffin YMCA announced today that they will begin renovations to the Tiffin YMCA pool beginning on March 1. The current pool, originally constructed in 1974 as the second Tiffin municipal pool, has reached the end of its useful life and would need significant and expensive work to continue operating.

Renovations will see the larger pool updated to competition specifications with six lanes that offer a starting depth of 7 ½ feet and a shallow turn-end depth of 4 feet. Additionally, the second smaller pool will be lengthened to competition specification and see the construction of a fully ADA-compliant access ramp. These modifications will allow the Y to better meet the needs of the community and YMCA members. Both pools are being manufactured by Mythra Pools of Italy, who builds the pools for the Olympic games, and will be installed by Omni Pools & Scapes of Hilliard, OH and Clouse Construction.

“These updates are the result of extensive research and planning by our team,” said Buster Ardner President & CEO of the Bucyrus-Tiffin YMCA. “Their dedication and attention to detail have made this project possible.”

The updates to the pools and their layout will allow them to be open more often with an increased variety of concurrent programming. New pumps, filtration, and sanitization systems will result in a less chlorinated pool that is easier on the skin and swimsuits while also increasing the system’s energy efficiency.

Lee Wilkinson, the Mayor of Tiffin, said: “I’m happy to see the YMCA continuing to invest in our community. Through their extensive programming the YMCA has shown an unparalleled commitment to the well-being of the residents of Tiffin and Seneca County.”

The renovations will take approximately six months and open to the public on September 1. In the interim, YMCA members will have access to the public pool during certain hours, and the YMCA will absorb some of the city pool’s operating costs and staffing requirements.

The YMCA is asking for the community’s support to complete the project, and all inquiries related to the pool renovation project can be directed to Pual Fortney, Vice President of Operations at the Bucyrus-Tiffin YMCA.
